This paper establishes a capability of micromechanical modelling of cracked laminates using unit cells, where there are two arbitrarily orientated arrays of cracks in different laminae. It has made micromechanical characterisation of damaged laminates possible over a much wider range than ever before and, as a result, significantly enhanced the development of continuum damage mechanics for laminated composites.
