A completely novel approach to support asset management decision making for railway track is described. Network Rail (Dr Andy Kirwan, andy.kirwan@network rail.co.uk) see the approach developed as the basis of the next generation of modelling tools to determine the maintenance and renewal strategy for their track and to justify funding requirements to the railway regulator.
