Additional information

This paper establishes the conditions for modelling porosity as an effective medium as distinct from a cloud of discrete defects, and significantly reduces computation time and complexity. The model is being used in the development of novel imaging and NDE procedures, in collaboration with University of Bristol (p.wilcox@bristol.ac.uk) and QinetiQ, Farnborough (rasmith@qinetiq.com). Users are Rolls-Royce (tony.dunhill@rolls-royce.com) and Airbus (kathryn.atherton@airbus.com).
