Additional information

For the first time, a time-marching finite element model has been developed which incorporates cyclic plasticity. It explains how significant surface plasticity that is observed experimentally in notionally elastic contact conditions can be rationalised. This journal paper won the Ken Ludema Best Paper Award at the 17th International Conference on Wear of Materials, Las Vegas 2009 (only one award for the conference out of 179 journal published papers accepted).
