Additional information

These two books are designed to engage reluctant readers, mainly teenage boys, by offering stories rooted in real issues. They build on the author’s own history as a reluctant reader. Based on interviews with adopted children ‘Liam’ explores cross-cultural adoption, their urge to identify their 'true' or biological parents, and the difficulties they encountered in understanding the religious, cultural, and racial reasons for their adoption. ‘Kung Fu Trip’ considers how capitalism and western culture are changing China. Told using the writer’s experiences in search of authentic Chinese martial arts, the book explores how many things get ‘lost in translation’.
