The book addresses an extensive research question, concerning the nature of the experience of work in contemporary cultural industries. It is based on a three-year funded research project that involved the collection and analysis of a very large amount of empirical data (63 interviews, six weeks of participant observation, analysis of multiple texts). It also involves an extended theoretical synthesis of research on labour in the cultural industries.
