<11> Symmetry in CP was a very active research area until a few years ago, when a method was found to provide symmetry breaking constraints automatically. However, there was an issue with this work, if a problem contains large quantities of symmetry, then the number of constraints required to exploit this symmetry is more than a modern constraint solver can handle. This paper presents the first step towards a solution to this issue, which has reawakened international interest in this research area. This work lead to a Royal Society University Research Fellowship for C. Jefferson.
