Novel mechanism for spinning continuous twisted composite nanofiber yarns
This paper, by (Bazbooz, PhD student and Stylios, supervisor), is one of 12 nano technology publications made by the author this period, chosen because it investigates conversion of yarns from nanofibres. It describes a novel mechanist and discusses how nanofibres get highly aligned, for regularity and strength, and how by applying twist to the fibre bundle, lateral cohesion and friction are increased, allowing them to be collected in winding, and ultimately used in conventional knitting, weaving or braiding. The paper details the process parameters and characterisation of fibre and yarn morphologies. This work underpins patent WO2013/030522, by Stylios and Luo).
