Double-weighted statement

First Films of the Holocaust constitutes a substantial contribution to study of Holocaust film and Russian film through its uncovering and redescription of a large number of primary sources that were complex and difficult to access. This involved exhuming footage over several months spent across four years at the Russian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents painstakingly looking through all of the wartime film footage taken at given sites of the Holocaust in the USSR, discounting misleading official catalogue entries. Subsequently the images of atrocity had to be co-related with recently published or unpublished verbal accounts of events.
