Additional information

This research was funded by prize money from the Society for Research into Higher Education Newer Researcher Prize in 2009. It used the Biographical Narrative Interpretative Method (BNIM) for both data collection and analysis; BNIM has not been frequently used in higher education research. Data was collected through three interviews with each participant; the very open structure empowered interviewees to share their own stories. Analysis involved in-depth individual and panel-based processes, exploring biography chronology, discourse and recurrent themes. The research provided insight into flying faculty teachers’ experiences; an area which has received scant research attention by UK academics.
