Additional information

This research addresses the paucity of experimental data, and inaccuracies in present simulation techniques, for capillary flow of liquids in discrete cracks in cementitious materials. New experimental data are presented and a revised capillary flow theory proposed and validated. The work is relevant to numerical research on deleterious processes in these materials and also provides a fundamental basis for the development of self-healing materials that rely on capillary flow for the delivery of healing agents. It has directly led to a £125k EPSRC funded first grant (EP/ J021776) and contributed to a £1.6M EPSRC and Industry funded grant (EP/K026631).
