Additional information

This paper describes the interface chemistry of a rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF) foamed against aluminium. A novel ultra-low angle microtomy method was used to prepare the system for ToF-SIMS analysis, which showed that under certain process conditions minor components of the formulation segregate to the RPUF/Al interface. As RPUFs are widely used in industry foamed against metal and polymer substrates, the knowledge gained in this investigation has far reaching consequences for the engineering of such an interface with optimum properties. This work les to a follow-on project on RPUF sandwich panels for architectural cladding purposes.
