Additional information

The calibration of zooming lenses is a long standing problem, and this paper extends a theoretical framework of imaging invariants to define the concept of Normalised Image of the Absolute Conic (NIAC). This framework shows how this produces an algorithm for zoom lens calibration. The work challenges the accepted dogma that a model incorporating a static optical centre cannot be used to accurately calibrate zoom lenses. Experimental and theoretical evaluation shows that the assumed approximations are good enough to give results comparable to other more complex state-of-the-art methods.
