Additional information

This paper presents original research results on theoretical analysis of six state-of-the-art slew control algorithms, three of which were designed by Surrey and Astrium UK Ltd through their R&D collaboration. This is the first published work on analytical results and comparison of all existing slew control algorithms together with the newly developed ones. The resultant optimised algorithms enable lower cost and more robust attitude control schemes of direct economic benefit to spacecraft builders and operators. The work has been adopted by the Astrium UK GNC group for future mission design and technical staff training (Group Head contact: sean.hardacre@astrium.eads.net).
