Additional information

This paper presents the first comprehensive interplanetary electron model based on a survey of known measurements coupled with a theoretical particle transport model. The model covers solar particle events and the effects of the Jovian electrons on the solar system electron environment and provides a formalism which is of direct use to engineers who need to design spacecraft systems to survive the radiation encountered in interplanetary missions. It is expected that the model will be incorporated into the European Space Agency’s SPENVIS suite so that it can be made widely available to industry and academia.
