Additional information

Due to the artificial nature of provided depth cues, psycho-physical models that explain depth perception in natural scenes are not applicable in 3D viewing. This paper looks at sensitivity analysis of humans for depth cues in stereoscopic 3D displays. Mathematical models are derived to explain just-noticeable differences in depth (JNDD) for three different depth cues: binocular disparity, retinal blue and relative size. Extensive subjective assessments were performed to validate the mathematical models for JNDD. The proposed models have important use cases in 3-D display designing and 3-D content production.
