Additional information

This paper is an outcome of an experimental study aimed at developing a new Earth-analogue test-bed to investigate the characteristics of Martian soils. Three Martian soil simulants recommended by the European Space Agency (ESA) and Astrium Ltd were identified and processed in the newly developed test-bed setup at the University of Surrey. The test-bed proved critical for deriving extensive experimental data on the expected interaction between the Martian surface and the ExoMars rover developed by Astrium Ltd for the upcoming ESA ExoMars mission.
