XENOTIME-(Y) FROM CARBONATITE DYKES AT LOFDAL, NAMIBIA: UNUSUALLY LOW LREE:HREE RATIO IN CARBONATITE, AND THE FIRST DATING OF XENOTIME OVERGROWTHS ON ZIRCON
The first substantive report of a carbonatite with heavy rare earths (REE). Carbonatite rocks are the World's main source of the 15 REE, essential for green technologies, but they typically only contain low amounts of the 'heavy' REE, predicted to be in critically short supply. The paper has led to industry funded research (e.g. Don Burton, [dburton@namibiaree.com]), international conference invites for 2 keynotes, convening 4 sessions (including 3500 participant Goldschmidt Conference 2013), led rare metals conference, Irish Association of Economic Geologists 2011, co-edited Elements magazine (15000 circulation, 100 countries), and membership NERC Security of Supply of minerals expert panel.
