Additional information

This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the design methodology underpinning experimental development of our proof of principle demonstration of the ability to diagnose malaria non-invasively by magneto-optical interrogation of the blood supply below a fingernail. Subsequently confirmed under clinical field conditions this world first offers the potential of blood free diagnosis thereby significantly reducing the risk of cross infection to health workers in regions where many other blood borne diseases are prevalent. Funding for the continuing development of this concept is again provided by the Gates Foundation.
