Additional information

Includes first model of Raman lasers pumped within semiconductor disk lasers – fully explaining the record efficiency of SDL-pumped devices. The high power frequency doubling reported resulted in a pledge of direct industry support (£15k plus £30k in-kind) from an SME, M Squared Lasers Ltd. [CEO: Malcolm, Graeme@m2lasers.com], for a funding application to EPSRC to develop practical replacements for visible dye-lasers. This work featured in an invited talk at Photonics West 2013 (San Francisco) and was the subject of an EPSRC press release (29/07/13), with accompanying online multimedia presentation, reflecting its potential significance in applications such as ophthalmology and spectroscopy.
