Additional information

This paper is the first to fully analyse and quantify the protection challenges associated with DC micro-grid networks. Commercial off-the-shelf based solutions are proposed to address significant barriers in the widespread adoption of DC power distribution. In conjunction with Rolls-Royce EPACS [Robert.Slater@Rolls-Royce.com] this analysis is also being brought into the aerospace domain and has formed the basis of applied protection studies for future civil aircraft and UAVs under EU Framework VII Clean Sky and the UK led industry consortium ASTRAEA II. Based on this research, EU and US patent applications [EP2485354] with Rolls-Royce are currently active.
