Photovoltaic retinal prosthesis : implant fabrication and performance
First in vivo results from a photovoltaic retinal implant using recordings from the visual cortex of genetically blind rats. Demonstrates the device can restore visual sensations in this model for human degenerative retinal blindness. This was presented at the 2012 SPIE BIOS conference and selected as a “BiOS Hot Topic” [http://spie.org/x85581.xml: 9 plenaries selected from 1800 papers]. This work was instrumental in the renewal of the National Institutes of Health RO1 grant (2R01EY018608-05; renewed 2013) held by Stanford University collaborator [palanker@stanford.edu] with Mathieson funded to support microfabrication of devices.
