This collaboration with the University of Alabama at Birmingham [mirov@uab.edu] brought together Strathclyde’s expertise in 2μm semiconductor disk lasers with the Mirov group’s expertise in chalcogenide laser materials. The work resulted in a laser source, and critically a noise insensitive pump arrangement, that was more compact and robust for important applications in gas sensing and industrial process control. This output was part of the body of work that further led to an invited book chapter (in ‘Semiconductor disk lasers’, Ed. Okhotnikov, Wiley, 2010).
