Stable, continuous-wave, intracavity, optical parametric oscillator pumped by a semiconductor disk laser (VECSEL)
This collaboration with the University of St Andrews [Dunn, mhd@st-and.ac.uk] developed a broadly tuneable mid-infrared source that is much more stable and hence industrially applicable than its predecessors. This advantage led directly to a TSB-funded collaborative programme with M Squared Lasers Ltd [Nils.Hempler@m2lasers.com] to commercialise this technology [TSB Ref 17475-119320, 2013-2014, £230k]. The work featured in an invited book chapter (in ‘Semiconductor disk lasers’, Ed. Okhotnikov, Wiley, 2010) and was the centre-piece of invited talks at Photonics West (San Francisco) and the 41st Freiburg Infrared Colloquium (both 2013).
