Additional information

Based upon extensive simulation modelling, the paper documents for the first time the performance benefits in terms of reduced delay and routing overhead, and the overall improved throughput associated with this scheme compared to more traditional wireless routing schemes. The proposed short message service (SMS) scheme is a novel routing protocol for wireless networks which has been taken forward by a number of international research teams, including that led by H. Livingstone [hlivings@it.ecei.tohoku.ac.jp] at Tohoku University, Japan. The original work has led to the development of other novel multipath routing algorithms and initiated two PhD programmes completing in 2010 and 2013.
