Object-based 2D-to-3D video conversion for effective stereoscopic content generation in 3D-TV applications
The lack of available 3D content has constrained the uptake of 3D-TV. In this output, a novel economical and practical solution is provided to convert many available 2D media TV libraries to a stereoscopic 3D form. Theoretical advances include optical-flow based occlusion reasoning, improved region-growing for object segmentation, and a hybrid depth estimation scheme. This research was recognised by the IET and IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) review in a compendium of the best of electronic media technology in 2011 [http://www.theiet.org/communities/multimedia/ibc/bestpaper2011.cfm].
