Additional information

This research presents research outcomes from a joint project between UK and Chinese institutions (Strathclyde, Manchester [hong.wang@Manchester.ac.uk] and North China Electric Power University [jfzhang@ncepu.edu.cn]). For the first time a comprehensive computational model has been established for molecular weight distribution control of styrene polymerization processes. It brings a new solution to the very challenging shape control problem in industries that require online information while the online measurement is inadequate. The developed methodology was applied in the petrochemical industry via a project (2008-9) led by Dr Puya Afshar [puya.afshar@uk.yokogawa.com], a System Consultant in Yokogawa Electric Corporation (Japan).
