Additional information

This research presents a framework analysing performance of amplified passive optical networks. The models, underpinned by detailed experimental evaluation, account for the influence of factors that are normally neglected. The results of this research have been used by Amphotonix Ltd (now Compound Semiconductor Technology (CST) Global) [iain.madden@amphotonix.com] since 2009, to understand amplified network performance. The research demonstrates that high SNRs are obtainable with amplifiers with relatively high noise figures and thus assisted Amphotonix in their amplifier design and product positioning.
