Additional information

The results of this original research are being applied within a subsequent knowledge exchange project [£43k, 2012-2013] funded by Qualitrol-DMS [John Pearson, jpearson@qualitrolcorp.com]. Understanding the relationship between unconventional RF partial discharge measurements and the IEC60270 standard is critically important for condition monitoring of high-voltage insulation. IEC60270 is the international benchmark but is unsuited to in-service plant. In contrast, RF systems have the advantage of being ‘non-contact’, so this new knowledge is enabling the development of advanced systems for on-line monitoring of high-voltage equipment health.
