Off-broadside main beam design and subband implementation for a class of frequency invariant beamformers
The paper solves the problem of designing a broadband, planar array with its main beam pointing off-broadside. The broadband aspect is relevant for applications in audio and acoustics, where signals cover several octaves. The work has been used in collaborative research with Philips Eindhoven in 2011 [sriram.srinivasan@philips.com] where different microphone subarrays require to be combined and may point in different directions, and real-time implementatio on microphone arrays in handheld devices in an EPSRC funded Engineering Doctorate project (2008-13) with Wolfson Microelectronics Ltd [Director of DSP, anthony.magrath@wolfsonmicro.com].
