Additional information

<25> This paper describes how, by facilitating a targeted search of the fish host infection parameter space, the computer model was first validated. Similarly, by matching theoretical results to empirical data, key factors driving infection dynamics and outcomes were quantified. Gyrodactylus (‘sea lice’) infections constitute a pressing ecological and economic problem – e.g. Norway’s salmon fisheries have suffered an estimated €20M loss (Olstad K. (2013): NOBANIS – Invasive Alien Species Fact Sheet – Gyrodactylus salaris, p8), though UK waters are currently clear.
