This volume contains the papers delivered by a group of scholars at an academic conference held at Liverpool Hope University (where Dalton was a member of staff) from 6-8 September 2005, together with an Introduction written by Marjorie Chibnall. Dalton and White planned and organised the conference with the intention of seeking to publish the proceedings as a book, invited individual scholars to give papers, and co-edited the resulting volume. The book contains a chapter written by Dalton, entitled 'Allegiance and Intelligence in King Stephen's Reign' pp. 80-97.
