Additional information

<01>In this paper we describe a novel planar antenna that operates across an ultra-wideband (UWB) spectrum (3.1-10.6 GHz) and simultaneously exhibits band-notch functionality. It is shown for the first time that by embedding a triangular shaped dielectric-slot in the ground-plane a much wider impedance bandwidth is realized. The band-notch property can be finely tuned to mitigate interference from other wireless systems (e.g. IEEE802.11a) that co-exist in the UWB spectrum that could significantly degrade UWB system performance. Tuning is achieved without degrading the antenna’s performance. The highly compact antenna finds applications in UWB wireless communications systems, UWB radar and medical imaging.
