Additional information

Described for the first time the underpinning technology for collagen-GAG based porous implant for cartilage repair. The novel compositionally graded structure (changing from a mineralized to a non-mineralized scaffold) was patented and the company Orthomimetics was founded with Series-A funding of £2M for the development of the first product, ChondroMimetic™. This work led to a biomaterials platform for the production of scaffolds for skeletal (meniscus, ligament) repair through continued TSB/EPSRC funded links (>£2M). In October 2009. TiGenix NV (based in Belgium), purchased Orthomimetics for 16M Euros. Former CEO of Orthomimetics can confirm (andrew.k.lynn@gmail.com).
