Additional information

This paper describes an experimentally validated nonlinear model highlighting the susceptibility of delaminated composite beams to bending-induced fatigue. When supported by experimental test results, the model can be adapted to provide a more repeatable method for determining the Mode II toughness of polymer resin than all existing methods. The work was conducted under a Great Western Research studentship with AgustaWestland/Rolls-Royce and led to two follow-on projects, also funded by AgustaWestland/Rolls-Royce, on damage tolerance and fatigue of composite laminates.
