In this work a novel regime of droplet ejection and a new coalescence cascade during rapid droplet spreading are identified and analysed in detail. This collaborative work was conducted by researchers from UK, France, China, Singapore and Saudi Arabia employing experimental, numerical and theoretical approaches. It was supported by EPSRC UK(EP/E046029/1), NSF China(11172294) and KAUST-BERKELEY SA(7000000024) and has led to an invited article in the prestigious Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics (Sui, Ding and Spelt, 46: 97-119, 2014), and several invited talks at top international institutions such as Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
