Additional information

This paper is the first to present an algorithm that re-uses the linear solvers of standard incompressible CFD discretisation. The resulting performance gains are demonstrated and are by far the best in the current literature. The paper develops a methodology for preparing complex legacy codes for application of Automatic Differentation software, the approach is now being used to develop an adjoint for the commercial code ACE+ by ESI group (S. Bayyuk, sami.bayyuk@esi-group-na.com ). The work is a key outcome of the EC FP-7 project FlowHead and led to further EC ITN funding with the About Flow project.
