Additional information

The cutting process for thin wall structures and the repair of components in aircraft structures such as stiffened wing skin and fuselage, requires thorough understanding of the dynamic response and stress distribution under impact forces including for example, moving cutting forces and bird-strike etc. The research study has led to the development of computational tools now widely used by Airbus UK to evaluate distortion of components in the fuselage and wing-box caused by residual stresses in billet. The paper led to three further industrial contracts with Airbus UK.
