Additional information

There is a new and growing demand for >1THz focal plane arrays for imaging. Cumming’s team has demonstrated new metamaterial-based methods for enhancing signal absorption. These devices have resulted in terahertz imagers with improved responsivity (20 V/mW). The work in this paper describes the feasibility study that enabled the successful application for EPSRC funding (EP/I017461, £589k) with industry partners Selex and Teraview. Cumming was invited to give a talk at Photonic and Electromagnetic Crystal Structures (Santa Fe, USA, 2012) about this work.
