Additional information

This paper describes the application of a new multi-agent, multi-resolution simulation engine (MAVERIC) to assess and optimise helicopter manoeuvre effectiveness against ambush by rocket-propelled grenades. It is shown that appropriate manoeuvres can greatly increase the survivability of helicopters to this threat. The UK MoD funded the development of this model through a DSTL grant (£31k). The research was presented at the SPIE Defense Security & Sensing 2010 conference (spie.org/x40200.xml), leading dierctly to a grant from the Australian Defence, Science and Technology Organisation to research helicopter operational analysis using MAVERIC (£105k, Contact: Gokhan Ibal, Gokhan.Ibal@dsto.defence.gov.au).
