Additional information

In contrast to established maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms and techniques for modelling photovoltaic solar cells that use the 2-diode model, this paper describes a new technique which allows rapid determination of the optimum operating point of the panel in terms of the load to which it is connected. This is a non-trivial problem since both the operating voltage and current are unknown. However, it is of great value in the assessment of system performance under real and simulated conditions. The algorithm demonstrates superior performance to "industry standard" methods, particularly under dynamic insolation conditions and high load impedance.
