The first edition of this book was submitted to RAE2008. However, in this 2nd edition the prologue, the epilogue and chapters 2, 4 and 14 are entirely new material (28% of the book). In addition, other chapters have been significantly re-written, with chapters 5, 6 and 8, for example, built around revised conceptual models. In a review of the 2nd edition in the Journal of Sport & Tourism in 2010 (vol. 15, no. 2), Sean Gammon observed: 'so dramatic are the additions and changes that the authors may well have been tempted to publish the book under a new title’.
