Additional information

This paper is a key collaboration with Professor John Rose, a leading expert in choice modelling at the University of Sydney. The paper formed the basis for a subsequent EPSRC project (EP/G033609/1) as well as a collaboration with Professor Kenneth Train (University of California, Berkeley), author of the leading textbook on choice modelling techniques. The work in this paper puts forward an extension of the standard specification of the widely used mixed logit model and has stimulated research not just in the transport field (with citations in four of the leading journals) but also in environmental and forest economics.
