Reinforcement of calcium phosphate cement with multi-walled carbon nanotubes and bovine serum albumin for injectable bone substitute applications
This work explains the development of a new injectable calcium phosphate cement (CPC) composite with high compressive strength for application as an injectable bone substitute. It is listed as one of the top 25 hottest articles in this journal during 2011 (http://top25.sciencedirect.com/subject/materials-science/15/journal/journal-of-the-mechanical-behavior-of-biomedical-materials/17516161/archive/36/). The work has been patented (http://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/WO2011139136) with plans for commercialization. Our recent results (http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.ceramint.2012.11.094) also show it has favourable cytocompatibility and is highly pro-proliferative, and therefore may have other wider applicability.
