Additional information

This interdisciplinary work involved the parallel development of optical and biological methods to enable the imaging of live mouse embryos inside a high resolution microscope. Harmonic generation microscopes are highly susceptible to aberrations that are inherent in the optics and the specimens. This was the first time that adaptive optics had been used to improve the image quality of these microscopes. This led to four invitations to speak at conferences. The methods are underpinning technologies on three later grants (BBSRC BB/J020907/1; Wellcome Trust 095927/A/11/Z; MRC MR/K01577X/1).
