Additional information

Almost all electrical equipment that use DC-to-DC converters can become unstable under certain conditions (e.g. voltage spikes) resulting in system failures. This paper shows the first observation of a sporadically short stable operation during unstable conditions. This observation now allows changes to DC-to-DC converter designs to enlarge the stable operating regions within unstable conditions. The results of the paper led to a £1.2M TSB grant (1202_CRD_LCV_IDP7_135347) in collaboration with eight industrial partners and led by UK largest DC-to-DC converter manufacturer, Turbo Power Systems Ltd (TLakin@turbopowersystems.com, 07970770151) who invests £165k to the project in order to commercialise this concept.
