"Unternehmen Entebbe" 1976: Quellenkritische Perspektiven auf eine Flugzeugentführung
This article examines the hijacking of an Air France plane originating from Tel Aviv to Uganda by members of the PFLP and the West-German Revolutionary Cells in 1976. Special attention is given to the so-called ‘selection’ of Entebbe, in which the hijackers divided their hostages into two groups. Perceptions were immediately tied up with memories of the Holocaust: the German hijackers seemed to replicate the selections at Auschwitz. A close reading of new sources demonstrates that these narratives need to be contextualised and that the alleged selection of Jews did not take place in the way it is usually claimed.
