Additional information

As Deputy Project Manager of the CMS Tracker detector, the author made substantial contributions to: (1) the conception of the study, which was the first to use data from the detector and from CMS. Numerous PhD students and postdoctoral RAs under the author's supervision contributed to obtaining and monitoring the data used in the study; (2) analysis and interpretation of data, where numerous, subtle features of the detector had to be carefully scrutinised in lengthy discussions over a long period.

The author was responsible for criticism of the paper for important intellectual content and made contributions to the text.
