Double-weighted statement

This book presents the results of a decade of research (1997-2007), including 18 months of research in Peruvian archives that posed particular challenges in terms of access and the organization of material. The core material consisted of hundreds of large volumes of notarial and other legal records that had not been catalogued or used systematically by musicologists. The scarcity of information on musical practices necessitated the examination of a huge quantity of material in order to develop an analysis. Negotiating access with ecclesiastical institutions in Peru proved particularly complex.
