Continuous wave second-harmonic generation using domain-disordered quasi-phase matching waveguides
This is the first demonstration of continuous-wave (cw) second harmonic generation (SHG) using a novel post-growth quasi-phase-matching technique for semiconductor waveguides first identified by Hutchings under an EPSRC Advanced Fellowship (e.g. DOI: 10.1063/1.126032). Type-I SHG is the simplest non-linear optical characterization, and advances in device fabrication and processing optimization have increased the magnitude of the grating non-linearity to enable SHG with cw illumination. The publication arises from an international collaboration with the University of Toronto, co-funded by EPSRC (EP/E009972/1) and NSERC, and led to an invited review paper in Laser & Photonics Reviews (DOI: 10.1002/lpor.201000008).
